Every sports leader would say managing an organisation isn't just a typical workday.

Newly appointed Women's Tennis Association (WTA) chair Valerie Camillo is familiar with working around the clock through her career - such as her time as a board member of the entertainment company which runs American country music superstar Dolly Parton's entertainment venues.

Beyond her input into Parton's brand empire, Camillo steps into the leadership of women's tennis bringing extensive background across sport and entertainment, previously occupying senior leadership posts at the National Basketball Association (NBA), the premier ice hockey competition and professional baseball.

Camillo will begin her new role at the WTA next month, taking over from the veteran Steve Simon, who led for a decade wraps up upon his departure.

When Camillo takes charge in mid-November, she takes over regarding major challenges faced by the former leader.

The tour signed a temporary arrangement with the Saudis - who have provided record prize money setting new standards currently - indicating Camillo will oversee the discussion regarding future in coming years.

The Saudi investment further offers major support for the tour's goal achieving pay parity during joint Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and WTA events within three years and other premier events in coming years.

The prospect of the WTA merging financial operations with the ATP remains under consideration, with the two governing bodies seemingly understanding the importance of unification concerning television, information and partnership agreements.

The current fragmented landscape frequently results in audiences and sponsors perplexed and frustrated.

Importantly, the leadership for both tours faced opposition via court proceedings from the players' union, that has questioned the governing bodies overlooking competitor needs.

Leadership understands the clear benefit of collaborating with the wealthier men's tour, yet the new chair aims to avoid the WTA being marginalized in key negotiations and marketing opportunities therefore.

Listening to concerns regarding calendar and competitor fatigue will also be high on Camillo's agenda.

Since her position requires she leads both the players and tournaments, it will be essential to address the concerns for each group and find equilibrium between driving revenue and player well-being creating that revenue.

Leadership changed hands from combined positions recently - subsequent to multiple major winner Martina Navratilova leading calls for change - and the transition of power finalizes through installing fresh leadership.

The new leadership signals continued progress of a new era for the WTA, seeking to grow its visibility within competitive sports media.

Camillo has the responsibility of increasing the visibility of women's tennis and may find motivation through direct involvement observing celebrated musician - with her 'Dollywood' theme park and unique products combined with performing career building worldwide recognition - is heralded as a model of commercial development.

Across sports business, Camillo will lean on her experience from heading organizational functions for the NHL team sports organization - specifically improving their Wells Fargo Center to premier venue - and holding financial leadership with the MLB franchise sports entity.

Her understanding with the commercial sophistication of America's biggest sports - specifically their methods for fan growth and secure funding via creativity - is seen as a significant element for choosing her.

The transition to women's tennis coincides with "a moment of accelerated growth and opportunity"per official statements.

Currently represents for women's sport. Financial returns across women's sport last year topped $1bn (£754m) and business analysts forecast achieving $2.5bn (£1.8bn) within six years.

The new leader's goal will be to ensure the organization and athletes - including Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek - take a significant slice of the pie.

"The tour features top competitors in the world and we are in an enviable position within the industry," Camillo told.

"Across women's sports, sponsorship, fans and attention grow rapidly.

"Typically the challenge for women's sports is building awareness, attracting fans and eyeballs and attention," continued the new leader.

"Our situation varies somewhat - having established legacy, we have an incredible legacy, extensive international reach, and some of the most famous, best-rewarded players worldwide."
