Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs to Miss Concert Series for Medical Care
The musician Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has revealed he will miss a segment of his group’s comeback concerts as he receives treatment for a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Concerts He Will Miss
The 60-year-old musician, a original member of the group, announced he will be unable to play at the scheduled shows in Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney and Melbourne.
The show in Seoul is set for 21 October, followed by Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.
Statement on His Condition
In a social media post, he shared that he was diagnosed prostate cancer at the start of the year and is reacting positively to therapy.
“Early this year I was found to have prostate cancer. The positive aspect is I’m reacting very positively to treatment, which allowed me to participate in this incredible tour.
“Now, I am having to take a scheduled pause for the subsequent stage of my care, so I’ll be missing the concerts in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m very disappointed to be missing these shows but I’m feeling good and will be back prepared in time for the South American leg.”
Previous Health Challenge
This marks his first health battle. In 2022, Arthurs revealed he had been found to have a tonsil cancer diagnosis.
At that time, he stated: “Just to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from performing for a while. I have been found to have a tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s manageable and I will be starting a treatment plan soon.”
Career Highlights
Arthurs played in the band The Rain with Liam Gallagher in the early 1990s before they brought in the singer’s brother, Noel, who subsequently demanded they adopt a new name.
He featured on three albums with the band, including the landmark Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before leaving in 1999 during the recording of the fourth album, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.
Arthurs later joined Liam Gallagher’s band for a period and has often performed live with Liam during his individual projects, including at the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2021.
He also formed the group his own band and worked as a broadcast presenter after his time with the band.
